Frank Montaro Obituary

Frank J. Montaro, 86, Dunmore, died Monday evening in the emergency room at Geisinger- Community Medical Center in Scranton. His wife of 63 years is the former Angela Iania.

Born in Dunmore, he was the loving son of the late Ralph and Lottie Blasko Montaro Sr. A lifelong member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Frank was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1954 and earned a degree from Lackawanna Junior College. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and had worked at Tobyhanna Army Depot for 35 years until his retirement. He also was owner of Montaro Masonry. One of his most proud masonry accomplishments was erecting the beautiful grotto at St. Anthony’s Rectory in Dunmore.

For fifty years, Frank was an active member of the Friends of the Bucks up until his death, having served as president for the past 20 years. He took tremendous pride in getting the community support behind the Dunmore Football team which included ads in the Meet the Bucks Football booklet each year. The funds raised provided the team with meals, snacks, summer and winter gear and the list goes on and on. Wearing clothing with the Bucks football emblem and being so involved with the team, gave him a great sense of pride. He has left a lasting legacy in this sense and will be extremely missed by many including those whose lives he touched.

Also surviving are his daughter Gina McGraw and her husband Robert, a son, Anthony Montaro and his wife Diana, a daughter-in-law, Susan Montaro, all of Dunmore, eight grandchildren, Nicole Nenish and her husband Michael, Angela Montaro, Joseph Montaro, Frank Montaro and his companion Marissa McDermott, Dr. Maria Montaro, Anthony Montaro, Jennifer Young and her husband Rod, and Emily Keating and her husband John, four great grandchildren, Morgan and Aria Nenish Julia and Rod Young, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Frank was preceded in death by his beloved son Ralph in 2006 and his brother Ralph “Dewey” Montaro.
