May 22, 1936 ~ September 17, 2023 (age 87) 87 Years Old
Evelyn Hinz, Roaring Brook Twp, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at Regional Hospital. She was the wife of Henry (Bud) Hinz. Together, the couple planned to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary on September 30.
Born in Dunmore, Evelyn was the youngest daughter of Elias and Mary Galician Hryshko. She was a member of St. Eulalia’s Church, Roaring Brook, as well as a 1954 graduate of Dunmore HS.
The matriarch of the Hinz family, Evelyn is survived by her husband Bud, 5 daughters: Ann (Mike) Sledzinski, Lake Ariel, Bonnie (Bill) McCormick, South Canaan, Lynn (Alan) Cunningham, Tafton, Ellen (Steve) Raguckas, Elmhurst, Betsy (Joe) Palko, Dunmore, her son Henry (Christina) Hinz, Lake Ariel, and her son-in-law, Darryl Sorensen, Allentown.
Proudly referred to as “Ma Hinz”, Evelyn was grandmother to 16 grandchildren: Kelly, Michael, Corinna, James, Elizabeth, Bryne, Joseph, Jessica, Cody, Devyn, Jacob, Kevyn, Katelyn, Hailey, Henry and Hope. She is also “Aunt” to many.
Evelyn was preceded in death by twin sons Eric and Elias, daughter Holly Sorensen, 1 brother, 7 sisters, and granddaughter Kelly Sledzinski.
Her patriotism and love for the American flag was second to none. Evelyn enjoyed spreading happiness and laughter by creating her own greeting cards. Friends and family knew the mail was from Evelyn by the images of flags and inspirational quotes she placed on the envelope. Visits from her hummingbirds and gifting her African violets brought joy to her day.
Friends and family may call on September 30 from 8:00-10:00 immediately preceding the mass of Christian burial at St. Eulalia’s Church, Blue Shutters Road, Roaring Brook. Burial to be held at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of choice in memory of Evelyn
